Discover the Lake

Birds of Lake Skadar

More than 280 bird species have been recorded at Lake Skadar, including one of Europe's last significant Dalmatian pelican colonies. These pages cover the species you have a genuine chance of seeing from the water, with the months each one is actually recorded on the lake and the routes that reach them.

Seasonality is drawn from 7,504 occurrence records for the Lake Skadar area published via GBIF. For planning a trip around birds generally, start with the Lake Skadar birdwatching guide.

Go and see them

The birds are in the reed channels that line the river and the open lake, and the reeds block the view from shore. A small private boat is how you reach them. Captain Dusko has read these waters for over 15 years.
